Miracle, Myth and Mystery

Sit down people let me paint a scene
Of people huddling meekly by a screen
With plastic icons waiting for the second coming
They picked a hymn and slowly started humming
And with great pomp and ceremonial fare
The Grand Inquisitor went on the air

He said ,"Hello all you in T.V. land,
Come to the screen, eat from my hand."
With gospel tunes weaving cuccoons he beat them
With talk of love a flock of doves mistreats them
"For submission is a role easily taken
and Christian Faith's all too easily shaken."

Chorus:
Miracle, Myth and Mystery
His healing hands reach 'cross the sea
And he cares so much for you and me
That he drives his nails on national T.V.

He told of future homelands in the sun
Of the flames of hell, the bullwhip and the gun
"And for those who marvel at my cruelty,
just imagine a world without me.
For Christ in his way acts of his own greed;
he doesn't understand what human's need."

Chorus

Look ma, I'm on TV!
And so it came to pass in bygone days
The people did forsake their ancient ways
He went to hell, he thought, to save the masses
Reflected in the lenses of his sunglasses
And when the Grand Inquisitor went off the air,
There was no one here on Earth that seemed to care.

"Lord lettest now thou thy servant depart in peace
according to thy word.
For my eyes have seen thy salvation, and yet
I have resisted temptation."
